wildlife observation

The  8000-plus acres of the refuge offer  numerous opportunities for wildlife observation.

There are over 168 bird species, 49 amphibian and reptile species, 28 different kinds of mammals, 20 species of fish and many species of butterflies and insects.

Wildlife observation can be an individual or group activity.

It can be a restful way to spend a day in the woods or an exciting sporting event.

Wildlife observation can take many forms and  reflects each person's interests.

Some people keep a nature journal or scrapbook.  This can be done by both individuals and families.

Others record their observations with photographs and some people keep extensive records and "life lists" of the wildlife they see.
Many people just like to spend some time outdoors away from the mundane sights and sounds of everyday life in cities and suburbs.  It is refreshing for the spirit as well as for the body.
